WHERE'S THE MARKETING?

ET-CET-ERA TOWERS. Trinidad, W.I. September 6, 2011------Can somebody please tell me where's the marketing of T&T's carnival at all the international Carnival festivals? We've just had the West Indian Day parade pass yesterday and in the Barbados Nation newspaper, the Jamaican culture was "bigged up" as usual- not that, it's a bad thing cause I really admire the Yardies for their marketing genius, but where the hell are our Trinbago reps?

Shouldn't there be tourism representatives, carnival stakeholders etc, on parade routes during these foreign festivals who're outfitted with the necessary tools to tell all who come to see these parades, about the MECCA of all carnivals, that being Trinidad Carnival? )

I'm so exhausted. I painstakingly do my part as a Trinbagonian, as I'm sure other people who love up 'we' culture do, but for the life of me, I don't understand why our government officials and even corporate entities won't spend money to make sure our artistes, musicians, food and essentially, the festival that is carnival, isn't properly exposed and sold....

Imagine, Kes the Band was on Fox 5's Early Morning show in the US just prior to Labour Day and I'm getting the distinct feeling that they were the only marketing ploy for T&T in a festival that started off as a mimic to T&T's greatest show on earth!!!

These marketing geniuses at the Tourism Ministry or TDC or whatever it is right now, as I think TDC is now defunct, better wake up because while CARNIVAL was dubbed a Trinbago festival for many years, we're slowly but surely loosing our branding claim to it as smart thinking, Jamaican people who love up their culture take full advantage of displaying themselves, their food and their people even in the West Indian Day Parade... COULD CARNIVAL SUFFER?

ET-CET-ERA TOWERS. Trinidad, W.I. September 7, 2011------- Now we're hearing that the 2011-2012 budget will see big cuts in expenditure. I'm wondering what this will mean for the culture sector. Anyone seeing a slash by maybe 3/4 for those $2 million big competition prizes? I certainly am...

But you know, I'm actually not upset about that per say. I have always felt that corporate Trinidad should be doing more- not just in terms of prize monies and sponsoring fetes and pan sides, but even as it relates to marketing the festival in different ways to foreigners and outside investors.

I'm forecasting a very slim allocation to carnival 2K12 by the government as I'm just getting the feeling that the Multiculturalism ministry won't be awarded as much dinero as they got in the last budget... just my view.. what's yours?
