There have been no strange publicity stunts or rumours circulating about this artiste who is now being referred to in Jamaica as the Energy God of Soca and in Tobago, the Prince of Soca, but even when it seems like he's under the radar, Shurwayne Winchester's doing his thing, making it happen for Soca music in ways others looking on, are admiring.
Shurwayne's heading to Germany this June and the excitement is rife. On June 10th, he'll perform at 2BE Club in an event being dubbed, Carnival Jump Up. The event is being highly publicized by DJ crew Soca Twins who're based in Germany. They're circulating word that the Soca Heavyweight Champion as they refer to Winchester, is on his way for a show no one should miss.
A mixtape of hits inclusive of Murdah, Road Calling, Band Coming, Open De Gate, Front, Come Beta and a long list of others has been created by Soca Twins and has hit the World Wide Web with force, penetrating and letting it be known that Winchester's no 'just come'- he's been around and he's contributed a lot to the industry that continues on a journey of growth.
For Shurwayne, music continues to be life. He's in the studio daily, mastering his craft, bettering each chord he strikes and fine-tuning the package for the world to see and love. "I have something coming real soon with a female singer from Jamaica. She's brand new and she's hot and people will love this," said Winchester who's currently in Jamaica working on a video for the track. He's also hanging out and working with friend and fellow artiste, Maxi Priest who he'll perform with this June at the Basia Beat Breast Cancer concert.
Whether with his band or solo, Shurwayne has continued to please fans across the Caribbean, hitting hard with great shows and garnering positive reviews wherever he goes. Recalling his performance at Bacchanal Jamaica where the crowd lapped up every thing he belted out, Shurwayne said, "That was a great experience. Jamaica’s always great to perform but that was a really special show."
Now, he's preparing to head to Berlin and promises Trinis and foreigners alike, a show they'll never forget. At the same time, the 'Paradisin' singer's taking the T&T flag with him, flying it high as he believes he was born to do. "Soca is our music, it's what we represent and wherever I go, I am Soca. I am branded Trinidad and Tobago."
