Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. July 15, 2011------------- The fifth annual Global Fusion Festival is preparing for a monster performance from Trinidad and Tobago’s very own soca headlining act, Shurwayne Winchester. The festival, which dominates the entertainment circuit in Philadelphia for an entire week, kicked off on July 11 and will end on Sunday, July 17.
Winchester, T&T’s lone musical representative at the Global Fusion festival this year, will take
the stage on Saturday, July 16 along with Canadian R&B singer, Malanie Fiona and other
international musicians, many of whom may have never experienced the soca genre live, and will, for the fist time at this phenomenal event.
Other acts at the festival include British Grammy award winner, Estelle and U.S born Grammy nominee, Anthony David. Commenting on the opportunity, Shurwayne said, “Our mission is first enjoyment as we are doing something we love and then stamping positively who we are as a band, and where we’re from. It's great to be shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest acts, on a stage of this nature and we’ll proudly represent our culture as we spread soca music to a global audience.”
Shurwayne recently left his mark in Germany when he performed at the Soca Twins’ birthday
bash in Berlin. He also erupted before audiences in St. John and Jamaica, leaving thousands with
a lasting impression of why he has been crowned the International Groovy and Power Soca
Monarch on numerous occasions. Supporters of Shurwayne’s music can eagerly anticipate his
vocals on a track to which a video was recently shot outside of T&T. The name of that soon to
be released single is “Wine On It”- a sentiment that will undoubtedly cast the “Paradisin” singer
in a different light, one that certainly goes against tradition. Beyond that, Winchester has
recorded a track on a new riddim out of Jamaica which also features artistes like Beenie Man,
Gyptian and Wayne Marshall.
