Soca artiste, Shurwayne Winchester |
Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. December 2, 2011--------Dyamic. Versatile. Energetic.
Those were the words that best described Shurwayne Winchester’s most recent performances.
On the heels of cable network, Flow’s Christmas party on Saturday, November 26th, Shurwayne
rolled solo at Woodford Café where he dished out much more than many would’ve expected. Excited for Christmas and the subsequent carnival season ahead, Shurwayne says he’s pulling out the stops and going hard into both seasons as he has nothing to lose.

“I’m an entertainer,” said the notably relaxed soca superstar last week Saturday night. He had
been explaining why his repertoire consists of such varying musical items, to an audience that simply wanted more. The event, which took place at the Hyatt Hotel was merely one of a number of Christmas functions Shurwayne and his band of three years, Y.O.U. have been contracted to perform at. He’s a favourite when it comes to events of this nature and that undoubtedly stems from his ability to vocally enforce any genre of music- from hip-hop to dancehall, reggae and of course calypso and soca. His first ever soca parang single, “When
Christmas Come Around” was a hit at both Flow’s Christmas Party and Woodford Café last week, however it was at Hyatt where he utilized the comical appeal of television personality, Philo, that fans of the artiste truly got a true taste of what he can bring, when he truly decides to go hard.
On both nights, audience members shouted flatteries, screamed with joy and called for more,
and that in itself was all that was needed for more to be delivered by the former double Road
March champ. From Work It to Wine On It, Jiggle It Reloaded and Wining Addict- his music
ahead of Carnival 2012 continues to be enjoyed by fans and soca lovers. Shurwayne says he
plans on releasing a power single next but hasn’t dished on whether that would be before or
after the Christmas season. Most recently, he was in St. Lucia shooting the video for Work It where
he reportedly shut down the entire Millennium Highway for three hours to shoot the scenes.
It’s just what happens when he’s bent on getting things right. In 2012, Shurwayne is promising
plenty vibes, plenty fun and a lot of great music for revelers to enjoy.
Sounds like SHurwayne would have having an excellent season. I look forward to it. AM
